Kōrerorero with us!
Over two days Arielle Walker will be present at Blue Oyster weaving, reading poetry, and holding space for visitors to kōrero with her in her exhibition distance rewoven from the roots to the stem.
You are invited to bring your own projects, special textile pieces from your family, weaving techniques, or poetry with you or you are welcome to simply sit and be with us.
Kōrerorero is a space to be in conversation with people, materials, places and times. When we are in conversation we can build connections between us, like making a tukutuku and passing strands through the panel, except those threads are what we bring to the space. Tea, coffee and food will be available in the gallery and visitors are welcome to come and go as they wish.
Arielle Walker (Taranaki, Ngāruahine, Ngāpuhi, Pākehā) is a Tāmaki Makaurau-based contemporary artist, writer and maker.
Having recently completed a Master of Visual Arts at AUT University, her practice seeks pathways towards reciprocal belonging through the intersections and connections between land, language, and craft, focusing on tactile storytelling and ancestral narratives. Contexts that surround this include the interconnectedness of isolated islands, the intrinsic ties of language and land, migration across the swell and pull of the ocean, textile traditions passed down through generations of tūpuna wāhine, roots and botanical belongings, pūrākau ("myths" and "folklore") as non-fiction.
