Ōtepoti Stor(i)es is a new site-specific interactive installation by Vicki Lenihan which highlights the history of Ōtepoti, the formative trading site located directly across the street from Blue Oyster Art Project Space. Lenihan has created an interactive experience focused around a pātaka kai of preserved plums collected from the artist’s own yard, to emphasise the importance of manaakitaka, kaihaukai, and kā kete o te wānaka–the sacred repositories of human kindness, seasonal observation, and ancestral wisdom. 

Manuhiri visiting the gallery are invited to receive preserved knowledge in exchange for a donation of non-perishable food or ukauka which will be donated to Te Whare Pounamu Dunedin Women’s Refuge.  We encourage you to consider what you give carefully, and donate generously for the coming winter.

This meal is the second in a series of artist-led projects which invite people to share a meal together.

Te Whare Pounamu Dunedin Women's Refuge advocates for women, whānau, tamariki and rakatahi supporting a pathway to safety, regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or socio-economic circumstances. Their aim is to eliminate family violence in our community by providing support, advocacy, education, and awareness
