Detail photograph of Morning Sketch #26 (2025),Abigail Aroha Jensen
Engaging in a daily ritual of drawing, Abigail Aroha Jensen drew Morning Sketch #26 at the Caselberg House, during her residency there in January 2025. This house is a place for “putting hands in the soil” as Jensen’s Nana would say, and a key part of the arts landscape in Ōtepoti. Like the winding roads of farmlands and harbour drives, the lines of the drawing intersect as if mimicking the pathways of our neurons build as memories intertwine.
Abigail Aroha Jensen is an artist who lives in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton. She holds a BMA from Waikato Institute of Technology with Honours from Toihoukura, School of Māori Visual Arts.
