Join us for an exciting line-up of events this February in association with Madison Kelly’s exhibition toko by and by. We will start the month off with an interactive Field Drawings workshop at Te Roto Pāteke, followed by an Artist talk with Madison. To close the exhibition we will host toko talks, a public performance of the work toko toko toko toko by Ōtepoti based artists. 

First up we have a Field Drawings workshop with Madison.

Start at Te Roto Pāteke | Macandrew Bay Beach

The focus of this trip is to observe at one site, we welcome you to use drawing exercises to look for patterns and rhythms around Te Roto Pāteke. Any level of drawing experience is welcome, focusing on marks and broader shapes of the harbour ecology! There will also be time to kōrero and chat about what we see, and how that slots into the whakapapa of the harbour in general. 

Materials and snacks will be provided. Appropriate for all ages.

Madison Kelly

(Kāi Tahu, Pākehā) is an Ōtepoti based artist, and lead guide at Orokonui Ecosanctuary. Grounded in drawing and field recording processes, her practice is concerned with nature-cultures in an unstable era.
