Drawing from the large framework of postcolonial theory, Halstead reconfigures our heritages as a mode of cultural production in the present while specifically describing her experiences of being part West Indian. She presents a rich tapestry of many associated heritages, with culture as a patchwork of many possibilities, and offers cultural loneliness and absence in the face of the predictable stereotypes of a kiwi identity.
